Film <IF>
Background
The film <if> was shown in 1968,the content is the reflection of ‘the May 1968 events in France’, which were a volatile period of civil unrest punctuated by massive general strikes and the occupation of factories and universities across France.

‘the May 1968 events in France’
The film is one of the pioneering movies in the period of rebellion of students. A revelation of ones feelings and psychology expresses the doubt about whether act in accordance with despotic dictatorship or not. In movie, the school is authority in microcosm. The movie illustrate that four students resist ultimately the management system of school after suffering from the body punishment. At the beginning of film, there are some situations that could reflect the brutality of regulation in school and was bully to students. In the end, there is the situation that several students shoot a bullet to school. However, the director not to express clearly the results is finally.
ending

punishment

The prominent theme is about the individuals’ resistance of arbitrary dictation and pursuit of freedom. The director applies some imagine scene in flexible way and the skill about transposition repeatedly of black and white situation and color situation. Which not only could describe fully the hypocritical system of boarding school but could avoid the unnecessary of political argument as well.
This is my analysis about the background, prominent and portray of film.
