Background
In the 1970s, because of economic depression and rising unemployment rate,
Britain was lifeless. Drugs and alcohol also became popular. In this situation,
many young people not satisfied with society and government, they relieved
their dissatisfaction through punk music. Punk rock music base on Triad Chord,
it not emphasize to musicianship, but focus on release thoughts.
Sex Pistols is the most popular punk bank in the Britain. The aim of
their music is rebellion, rebels the system, rebels boring and meaningless
lifestyle. Their album 'GOD SAVE THE QUEEN' , the cover used the Queen's
picture and put their logo 'SEX PISTOLS' on the Queen's mouth. In that time, no
one has their bold style, Sex Pistols vented resentment completely, it made a
complaint of future and society. Meanwhile, they not satisfied with the
monarchy, they thought a new system might leaded Britain to a new beginning.

GOD SAVE THE QUEEN was published. This album was banned because the lyrics aim to the
QUEEN. But Sex Pistols still continued, in Silver Jubilee of the Queen Elizabeth II,
they howled 'God save the queen, She ain't no human being, there is no future in
England's dreaming' in the Thames cruises, until policemen arrest them.
But the
royal was embarrassing that at this time the Sex Pistols was the first on the
BBC charts. After that the lyrics ' no future' became a slogan of all punk people
and the Sex Pistols was well known.
Feelings
I am
attracted by the name of GOD SAVE THE QUEEN. I know that is the British anthem. But after listen
this song, I am surprised. This song is totally different with the original. It
aims to the QUEEN. In my mind, the QUEEN is the most respected in Britain. The
Sex Pistols is too bold. I very interested in why this song would be published.
After searching the social background, I understand it is a sound of hopelessness.
In the 1970s, Britain was in a difficult position. People's inner were hurt, they
want to change their situation. Maybe not everyone can accept this rebellious
words. But I believe that punk's extreme thinking added many special colour for
that age. Although the
Sex pistols just existed about two years, but they still created a new punk
world.
