War Pigs By Black Sabbath Simon

I never hear this band before, however, I am loving them and their works after I listen to their music. ‘WAR PIGS’ is a song which is fantastic and amazing. It gives me a sense of sadness. Some views were appeared in my brain. Common sense is that there are few people interested in heavy metal genre. Some people think that it is a kind of noise, while others assert that this is a kind of exciting music style.

It is said that this song had been reorganize different versions, such as jazz version, country version, hard-rocking version, dead-core version. Every versions were very popular.

I like this song because of the background. The plot of this song relates to the second war. It says that military officers who start warring likes Satan and they try trick and plots in the war. Politicians hide themselves away, they only started the war and never take part in the war while they never care about individuals’ lives.

Lyricist insinuated the second war and Hitlerism. What’s more, this song is antiwar which describes the war likes hell with conspiracy, death and dread.

Lyrics:

                                                                      "War Pigs"
Generals gathered in their masses,
just like witches at black masses.
Evil minds that plot destruction,
sorcerers of death's construction.
In the fields the bodies burning,
as the war machine keeps turning.
Death and hatred to mankind,
poisoning their brainwashed minds...Oh lord yeah!

Politicians hide themselves away
They only started the war
Why should they go out to fight?
They leave that role to the poor

Time will tell on their power minds
Making war just for fun
Treating people just like pawns in chess
Wait `till their judgement day comes, yeah!

Now in darkness, world stops turning,
as you hear the bodies burning.
No more war pigs of the power,
hand of god has struck the hour.
Day of judgement, god is calling,
on their knees the war pigs crawling.
Begging mercy for their sins,
Satan, laughing, spreads his wings...Oh lord, yeah!

  1. I also haven’t listened to their songs, although I only knew the episode of Ozzy Osbourne that bit heading a bat off (they have the virus which brings death at the worst) as a live performance because he thought it was the imitation then moved to a hospital. kk

I become fond of this song too thanks to the impressive guitar performance and emotional sound.

The album Paranoid in which War pigs is recorded was released in 1970.

According to Geezer Butler, the bassist and lyricist, this song is "totally against the Vietnam War, about how these rich politicians and rich people start all the wars for their benefit and get all the poor people to die for them”, whereas Osbourne (vocalist) said this song is just anti- war song not only about the Vietnam war.

In addition, it is said the title of this album was originally not Paranoid but War pigs, but the record company persuaded them to change the title to Paranoid because of “fearing backlash from supporters of the ongoing Vietnam War”. It seems that it is shown on the jacket as well.

Why do you think this song is about WW2? If you have articles or something about that or your additional opinion, please share on the blog ;)

    1. Thank you for detailed information!
I didn't know the relation between WW2 and their home town and the images in Ozzy's concert. I could understand more that he wanted to express the horror and mindlessness of war in this song thanks to you and I considered the pictures of Bush and Hitler are comprehensible icons when people criticize war.
