Give peace a chance
The general meaning of this song is to
express the dissatisfaction of war.Politicians started the war but hide
themselves away and push innocent civilians in suffering. They look the poor as
worthless as chess pieces, don’t care about their lives just want get the
power. However there must be a end of war at one day, hand of god will stretch
out to save us, war pigs who waged war will be judged by god, even they beg the
forgiveness there are punishment from Satan will be waited.
We can get the theme of the song straightly
from the title-----no war. This is an anti-war song that made of black Sabbath
at 1971 during the Vietnam War period(1955-1975). That period born a lot of anti-war song,
war pigs is the one of classics. However, this song used a
kind of different way to explain the war, the difference between other songs to advocate love and peace, war pigs compare the war to devil with irony to
describe a darkness world in the shadow of the war.
This song highlighted Black Sabbath's
first studio album. This song especially secures their unique site in the
history of punk rock music as well as pioneering heavy metal. Today, the song
is considered to be one of Black Sabbath's best works, as well as a significant
milestone in the history of hard rock and heavy metal.

ReplyDeleteVera, your blog was quite interesting for me because you chose the same song with me. Anyway, you said that this song described the darkness of the war while there is another song which focused on how peace is important. What do you think which way is more effective to encourage people? And then, there is useful information in the below. Personally, Bob Dylan is my favorite musician. Even if 'Blowing in the wind' contains contents against war as well, the atmosphere of the song is totally different with 'War pigs'. This may be because his song is based on folk rock. What kind of music is more powerful to transmit messages compared with both songs in this regard? I think that heavy metal seem to be direct for antiwar ideas like Malcolm X who has taken strong action. On the other hand, folk song may prefer to reflect ideas against war using indirect methods like Martin Luther King who is represented by non-violent movement.
ReplyDeletePersonally,I prefer the first way which describe the darkness of war.Because I think this way is more powerful and direct to show us how terrible the war is.But,the second way is better to encourage people to keep rust love and don't loss hope. There are 2 different type of music what you mentioned, heavy metal and folk rock.In my opinion, heavy metal use a kind of strong power of music to abreact of dissatisfied emotion in visualized and intense way. However, folk rock is slighter than metal, people maybe can remember the melody or lyric easily but you can't experience the intense feeling.
ReplyDeleteIf you ask me, I think the second way might be more effective and destructive to lead to better results. This is because people usually attempt to change their attitudes and thoughts when they recognize what is a problem for themselves. For instance, it is assumed that there is a problem child at the school. In my view, the child would turn into a good student when the child identifies and admit what he did is bad for himself. Of course, it is probable that we may need both of them as solutions.
